We wanted to share with you that State Fund is now beginning to take a more in-depth approach to how they underwrite certain areas of -their business including roofing, sports teams, and others (primarily in the construction industry). For submissions and renewals in those areas, they’ll be asking for additional information either upfront or post-bind.
While this approach may add time to the quoting and binding process for a small percentage of their customers, they believe it is necessary to help keep their pricing as competitive as possible and continue to serve any California business that need them over the long term.
We’ve provided some additional specifics about these changes below.
Roofing
State Fund will require a Roofing Supplemental Application prior to quoting roofing risks. This will help them collect the correct expected exposures and understand the current safety controls in place.
They will also apply a Job Notification Endorsement to all roofers with no payroll. When an underwriter determines that a zero-payroll policy is reasonable, they will provide the policyholder with a copy of the Job Notification Endorsement and ensure the policyholder is aware that a Job Notification form must also be completed prior to starting a job in which workers will be hired/working.
Other Areas of Business (primarily construction related)
State Fund will complete in-depth reviews of both new policies and renewals. If they require additional information, such as a Payroll Supplemental Application, the Access State Fund Team will reach out to you directly to discuss further.
